The Benefits of Understanding Brainwaves
Get to know your brain and step up to your true potential
I find the brain fascinating subject. It is mysterious and powerful beyond measure. I love challenging it and hacking it.
Our brains are made up of neurons, which communicate with each other using electricity. All these signals that these cells produce interacting with each other create electrical activity commonly known as brainwave.
Due to the lifestyle that we are accostumed, our brains mostly work in beta states. We live in a hurry, we need to get things done, we don't take time to slow down and take care of our bodies. While the beta brainwaves are benefitial and they are meant to be there to help us go through life and use our reasoning thinking, too much of them doesn't serve us.
The 4 main brainwaves:
Beta waves: this is the most common brainwave pattern. They are produced in state of alert, logical thinking and engaging in activities that require rational thoughts. Too much amounts of these waves can trigger anxiety.
Benefits:
-Increases logical and critical thinking
-Increases concentration
Alpha waves: they are produced in states of relaxation and meditation. It is a gateway to your subconscious mind. Optimal time to program the mind for success and it also heightens your imagination, visualization, memory, learning and concentration.
Benefits:
-Both emispheris of the brain get syncronised and act coherently
-Increases vividness in visualisation
-Increases creativity
-Reduces high blood pressure
-Reduces anxiety
Theta waves: this brainwave states are induced in altered states of meditation, where you seem to be dreaming but you are still conscious of the reality. The mind is really relaxed and receptive to suggestion.
Through different activities we can access those states that can benefit us in many levels. Here, again meditation is a powerful tool to heal mentally and physically. Helping the body release hormones that will help us feel happier more relaxed and grounded.
Benefits:
-Deep relaxation
-Sense of inner peace and safety
-Increased intuition
-Reduces stress and anxiety
Delta waves: place of deepest relaxation, deepest healing, deepest spiritual connection and deepest connection with the subconscious mind. It is consider to door to the collective consciousness.
Benefits:
-Help the body restore and heal
-High amounts induce advanced states of empathy and compassion
Learning how to modify your brainwaves for better well-being
Due to the lifestyle that we are accostumed, our brains mostly work in beta states. We live in a hurry, we need to get things done, we don't take time to slow down and take care of our bodies. While these beta brainwaves are benefitial and they are meant to be there to help us go through life and use our reasoning thinking, too much of them doesn't serve us.
The power resides in being able to control and get into a flow with your brain activity so you are able to master it and allow your mind-body-spirit to feel its best.
I believe is important to understand the functioning of our bodies to be able to comprehend on a deeper level what it consists of. When doing this, we have a clear intention of what we want to achieve and we know the steps to take to reach the goal.

One simple way to use the knowledge of your brainwaves for well-being is self-hyponisis. Ok, let me explain. Remember that the gap between beta and alpha was the door to our subsconsious mind? Well, our subconsious mind is the part of our brain that stores our beliefs our old stories and programming. Think about this brain as a software that was introduced in your childhood. Most of your ways of thinking and personality come from the subconsious mind. What you learnt as a child, what you were modeled, etc. built your belief system. You adopted as yours without questioning. The problem is, these beliefs and thought patterns migtht not be serving you! They just run automatically because this is how the brain works. Hold on! There's some hope. YOU CAN REPROGRAM YOUR BRAIN. Yes, by accessing the subconsious mind you can actually change this software and install a new one. Here is when brainwaves come into play. We can use the regular cycle of this brainwaves to incoporate new beliefs systems.
A great way to do that is using the gateway between beta and alpha right after when you wake up and before falling asleep. At these times, your brainwaves start changing as your body relaxes or gets out of sleep. As the door between the consious and the subcounscious is really thin you take advantage and rewrite your new personality. How? Well, you can do that through meditation, visualisation or repeating affirmations.
If you get into the habit of using these moments of transition to repeat to yourself those affirmations and beliefs that you want to incorporate you'll be hacking your brain and walking torwards your highest-self!
